Day Six, Poem #6 - Polaroid Fade

Polaroid Fade
NaPoWriMo #6 – converse with images

In the bright crosshairs
of a storefront window
four boys wait
white school shirts
misbuttoned
untucked
and skinny arms jangling.

A woman
in a red shift dress
black hair pulled tightly
into a bun at the
nape
pushes the glass door open
and clicks through
on marble
black heels
shining.

Her left arm is heavy
with
purse
with
square paper bags
rumpling against her
thigh.

With a snap
she clicks her purse shut
and the boys
look up
meeting her gaze
guiltily.

And for a
split
second
five people
are
disarmed.

  2. Well done! Love the imagery of the boys, with their shirts buttoned wrong and their arms "jangling" and the woman with her heels, her bags, and her tightly wound bun.

  3. I love the 'arm' motif here: 'skinny arms jangling', 'her left arm is heavy', and the final: 'five people / are / disarmed.'
