Day Nine, Poem #9 - Alligator Pear

Alligator Pear
NaPoWriMo #9 – off prompt

Back when salad plates
held sliced eggs
and baby corn
and alligator pears
the fashionable women
ate grapefruit halves
to slim down
and trim waists
hoping for a teaspoon
of table sugar
to cut the bite.

But the creamy
avocado sliced
in perfect half moon
luna moth green
silhouette
was a temptation
that no woman
could resist.

A lowly apple,
the fabled fruit,
was no match
for the siren-sweet hum
of the
alligator pear.
